Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. is one of the oldest and most established management buyout firms in the world. Some highlights of its activities include:
  • Completing the first billion dollar buyout, Wometco Enterprises, Inc., in April 1984 for $1.1 billion
  • Completing two of the largest buyout transactions ever (RJR Nabisco, 1989, $31.4 billion and Beatrice, 1986, $8.7 billion)
  • Completing two of the first leveraged buyouts in the technology sector, namely, Amphenol Corporation in 1997 ($1.5 billion) and REL TEC Corporation in 1995 ($500 million)
  • Completing two of the largest technology buyouts ever, SunGard ($11.4 billion) and Philips Semiconductors (EUR 8.3 billion)
  • Pioneering the use of private equity in highly complex and regulated industries such as banking, insurance, utilities and healthcare
