This article from Harvard Business Review discusses strategies for leaders to identify and address “unknown unknowns”: unexpected challenges that aren’t on their radar.

It outlines three key strategies: seeking an inside perspective by connecting with individuals who have direct experience; performing a “pre-mortem” by imagining potential failures to uncover overlooked issues; and lastly, test implicit assumptions by questioning conventional wisdom and soliciting advice from unlikely sources.

While blind spots cannot be completely eliminated, these strategies can help leaders better anticipate and navigate unexpected challenges in their decision-making processes.
